Child Custody Trial Underway for Uma Thurman and Ex

North Carolinians might be interested in the child custody trial that recently got underway in New York between actress Uma Thurman and her ex-fiance, Arpad Busson. The former couple is battling over the daughter they share together, who is 4 years old.

The first witness who testified was a court-appointed psychologist. She opined about the development of Luna, the child, as well as both parents. She said that the primary issue with the parents is their inability to get along with each other. Busson has claimed that Thurman has wild mood swings that are caused by popping pills. He also claimed that Thurman has psychological problems, but the psychologist said that Thurman’s doctor said that she doesn’t.

Thurman and Busson are arguing over the school that Luna will attend. Thurman has chosen Saint Anne’s, which is a private school. Busson has stated that the children there look dirty. The judge reportedly stated that many people would be thrilled to be able to have their children attend the school. Busson is also wanting Luna to spend vacation time with him at his home in the Bahamas. Weiss testified that two-week vacations in the Bahamas with her father are not developmentally appropriate at this time, but they might be good when Luna is older.

People who are involved in these types of disputes might want to be aware that courts make decisions in custody cases according to what the judges believe to be in the best interests of the children. A parent might want to retain a family law attorney to see if negotiating an agreement is possible without having to go through a lengthy public trial.
